Indian football 2009

Emmy's our football girl, I left with the three boys before halftime. Basil called after halftime and said "she wants to stay for the whole game. I'm going to tell her that right after they kick the next time that the game is over." They're on their way home now, at 9:30. The child has been up since 6:45 this morning.
Caleb really enjoyed everybody clapping to Cherokee. He was so cute clapping along every single time it was played. Which was lots, and we were only there for a little while.
The boys just go to eat. As if we didn't eat dinner RIGHT before we went. Once the food runs out, they're ready to go.
We were able to buy several more minutes by pointing out the seat numbers to Caleb. He went up and down the row several times naming them all.
Here are some more pictures that I took with my most awesome camera. Check out the new super cool (and super obnoxious) big screen. Really, the picture doesn't do it justice.
The new field sure is purdy though, I'll give them that much.

It's finally happened

Jonah has finally made it to the top of the growth chart. He was born an inch smaller than Jacob and about a pound and a half lighter, and up until now it's stayed that way. Jacob is NOT impressed, by the way. It would NOT be good to point it out. Just a friendly public service announcement.
.................
I use the inside of a doorway to mark and while I'll admit that it's not very neat at least I've always been able to read it. None of them have messed with it, then along came Caleb. The top half of the chart looks alright, the bottom, well...it looks like this:

I should have made sure that he wasn't watching while I was marking the other kids. It's a good thing I wrote it all down recently. Sheesh. The kid makes me tired.
........
The kids have all had considerable growth spurts over the summer. Jacob and Jonah not so much weight wise (I don't think they ever gain, must be nice) but everybody has grown at least an inch since May. Time for new jeans!

First day of school!

I made a video like this for the boys when they started school. I bawled like a baby watching theirs, so I don't know why I thought that today would be any different. Why do I do this to myself?!

Rowing back to our van that was DOWN BY THE RIVER!

I just love that SNL skit. :)
.....................................

So BASIL had the idea to go canoeing (every time I spell that I have to double check. You know, the whole "I before E except after C thing)....anyway, he wanted to canoe down Village Creek. "Three miles" he said, "it won't be bad!" Okiedokie. I've never been in a canoe before but it seemed like just the thing that Jacob and Jonah would love. Emmy didn't want to go, she cried but I made her. I very lovingly said "you're starting school Monday and I want to spend time with you! You're going canoeing! Get your shoes on and get in the flipping car!" So we dropped Caleb off at Mom's and off we went. We get there, get into a truck with a complete stranger who drives us to our starting point and he says "it's about 6 miles, it takes 3.5 to 4 hours depending on how fast you go." Great. I honestly thought I would die after about the first 30 minutes. It was SO hot. I didn't complain though (not then anyway) so as not to influence the kids to start. They lasted about another 30 minutes and then they started. "It's hot! I'm sweaty! This is too long! When are we going to be done?! I want to fish! I thought this would be different, like the rapids or something! How much longer?!" You get it. So I'm hot, we keep getting stuck on the stupid bottom or running into fallen trees, and I'm trapped in a freaking canoe with two pissy kids. The third was enjoying herself. Emmy didn't hardly complain at all and said that she had a good time. I can't figure them out sometimes.
We saw a whole lot of this. The boys kept saying "we've gone past this tree 6 times! We're going in circles!"
We stopped a few times to let them get out and explore and to take a dip in the water to cool off.
This was the best thing that I saw all day, the sight of our car waiting for us after 3 + hours!
Poor Basil. I have to say that I love him for planning a family outing for all of us (minus one) and it would have been really nice had it just been a shorter distance. And not as hot. And not as long. Did I already mention that it was too long? It was actually pretty and when the kids weren't flapping their gums it was nice and quiet. I like that sort of thing but in smaller doses apparently. Despite the fact that I Tweeted throughout the trip, I did help him row some until his oar broke in half and he needed mine. Maybe in a different season, when the kids are a little older and on a shorter trail we'd like it better.
.................................
A much shorter trail.

Random pictures from Galveston

That don't contain any of the kids! Shocking, I know!
One of the many things we love about the Rainforest Cafe. The yummy (but too expensive) dessert. VOLCANO!
Weather as we were heading out of Galveston. It was perfect the whole time we were there, it just started getting nasty when we left.

Minication

A new word, courtesy of Emmy. Yesterday as we were leaving Galveston she said "why did we jut take a minication? I don't want to leave!" It was a jam packed minication and we had lots of fun. We got to Galveston about 2pm Monday. By 2:30 we were in the hotel pool. We swam until about 4, went to the room to change and had dinner at the Rainforest Cafe at 5. We had a nice meal, looked at the fish, ate a Volcano, rode the Rainforest ride and then Basil took the "big" three to the beach at 7 and they stayed until about 8:30, then came back to the hotel and swam for another hour. We got up Tuesday morning, had breakfast and got to Schlitterbahn at 10 when they opened. We stayed until they closed at 6. Whew. Caleb did great, he splashed and played and then took a nice fat nap on Basil. I got to play with the others while he slept, it was really nice.
Here's our group at the Rainforest:

Nothing like being discreet about peeing in the pool, huh?

Snack time!

And we were sitting right under a speaker with music blaring. He was really tired.

Sweet little sun kissed cheeks:

I can't believe that the summer is almost over, did that fly by or what?!?!?!
