Rules

Emmy turns into a total chatterbox when the boys aren't around. I mean, she usually is anyway but when there's nobody to compete with, she talks even more. This morning she said "I wish we didn't have any rules in our house." I said "well, we have to. What are some of our rules?"

She started firing them off:

No hitting
No yelling
No biting
No running with a pencil outside while people are in front of you
No loud instruments in our house
No clams with pearls inside our house
No flags inside because they're too big
No eating without praying
No correcting you

There were several more, I just can't remember what they were. So, the next time you think about running with a pencil outside while people are in front of you, you just think twice. ;)

First grade!

Jonah was excited about going this morning. Jacob, not so much. Jonah smiled and popped out of bed, Jacob yelled "MOM, YOU'RE WAKING ME UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!" and proceeded to whine all the way to the living room. They were both ready to go when it was time to leave though. I should have anticipated just how many people park, get out and walk their kids in the first day of school. I left a few minutes later than I wanted to, we had to park 73 miles from the school and my kids don't have the quickest steps in the world. We were very nearly late. Jacob and Jonah were the last two to arrive (anybody who knows me knows that I have time anxiety issues, I HATE being late) so all eyes were on us when we walked in. They were not impressed with my wanting a picture of them at their desks and even less impressed that I told them bye in front of everybody. I won't do that tomorrow. We'll leave lots earlier and I'll say my goodbyes before we leave the house. MOOOOOOOOOM! You're embarrassing me!!!
Here are a few pics:

Haircuts

We went to Comedy Cuts to get school haircuts today. An hour and $40 later (see why I normally just do it at home?!) this is what we came out with.

Jacob before:

Jacob after. (I buzzed his hair about a month ago so there wasn't much there to begin with, she just trimmed his sides up.)

Jonah (who's been completely high on something today, I'm not sure what his deal is.)

Miss Congeniality before:

And after:

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Here it is after. We got about 3 inches cut off of the back, I almost had a panic attack when she was cutting it. It looks good though, it's all wavy in this picture because the girl sprayed it to cut it and then it just air dried.
So they're all set! We go meet the boys' new teacher on Thursday and school starts Monday!

School stuff

School starts next Monday, the boys are NOT happy about it. Last night we had this conversation:

Me: Are you excited about going back to school?

Jacob: No. I hate school.

Jonah: School is not fun.

Me: There must be some fun parts to your day.

Jacob: There aren't. All we do is work.

Me: What about recess? That's fun isn't it?

Jonah: Not fun.

Me: Well you have to go to school. You need to learn things.

Jacob: We already know it all.

Jonah: Yeah, stuff like don't smoke and don't alcohol. We know that.

Well at least they have the basics. Nice to know I won't have drunk chain smoking seven year olds.

Lets hope the excitement builds between now and Monday.

Wonder how long it'll last?

Last night, for the first time in I can't remember how long, EVERYBODY slept in their own bed!! We slept all night, no bad dreams, no bathroom, no bottle......ALL NIGHT LONG. Wouldn't it be nice if this were a new trend? I won't get my hopes up too high though. ;)

(Yes, he's a tummy sleeper. We do what works.)

What a vacation hangover looks like

It's pretty much how I felt too. We went to the beach for the weekend. It was MUCH different being there this time, Caleb couldn't crawl a month ago. THANK GOD he wasn't crawling a month ago when we were there for an entire week. Good Lord. Did we go when any of the others were in the crawling stage? We must not have, surely I would remember. Crawl, pull up, fall over, hit head, cry. Repeat. Crawl, eat sand, eat shell, fall over in water, choke, cry. Repeat. Find small toy on cabin floor, put in mouth, have somebody dig it out, cry. Repeat.

I'm thinking that was the last trip of the summer.

Don't fence me in!

Since the uploading is going super fast this morning, I'll combine a couple of posts into one. We went to "Circus night at the Pompano" last night, it was a big hit with the kids. Face painting, a clown, balloon animals - not to mention the all you could eat hamburger/hot dog/nacho bar. PLUS popcorn, make your own ice cream sundaes , sno cones and cotton candy. It took them quite a while to fall asleep last night!!

The boys are in serious need of some haircuts...

Life according to Basil

My Mom and I were watching some old videos of the kids the other day, Emily was about the age that Caleb is now, maybe a little younger. I told Basil "I noticed that she was clapping at this age, he doesn't clap." Just an observation, not that it's a big deal. His response:

"Girls are just smarter." (He should have just stopped there, but he went on to say) "Well, they start out smarter, then they grow up and lose all sense God gave a jackass."
