Artwork

The boys decided that they wanted to enter something for the Reflections program at school this year. Here's a description of Reflections taken from the PTA site:

The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage). For nearly 40 years, the program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art. The Reflections Program was started in 1969 by then Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson.

By Jonah, titled Snake River:

By Jacob, titled Macaw Beach

They drew with pencil first then painted on canvas using acrylic paints. I think they did a pretty good job!

Dancin' with the Indian Spirit

The people that organize THIS clinic should teach the people that organize the other one. The difference is night and day. Jacob and Jonah had a good time channeling their inner Indian Spirit. Jacob was all into it and Jonah was too busy protecting this HUGE chunk of cement that he found and stuffed down his pants to really pay attention. I'll try to get the video uploaded soon so you can see him. I thought something was wrong with his arm and he's just trying to keep the cement from falling out of his pants. You can see what I mean in the last picture. He brought it home and painted it like the American flag. Like we don't have paper or something.

They're supposed to dance during the 3rd quarter of the game tomorrow, but the weather may have other ideas.

Fall Fest 2009

Our second annual neighborhood fall fest was a big hit. Fun was had by all and everybody was high on sugar and filthy when heading home.
My pretty little monarch butterfly fairy, who to me looked more like she should be serving beer in a German pub or something.
Maybe actually having all of the necessary parts to the costume will make a difference on Halloween. We didn't have the tights and shoes called for so made do with bare legs and sandals.
The cutest little Thomas the Tank Engine ever. Although by the end of the night he had some pretty big competition, more on that later.
We bobbed for apples...
and had sack races.
Jacob tried to make one desperate final attempt at winning by doing a baseball type slide at the finish.
Hilarity ensued when the little girls had their turn.
We enjoyed the bean bag toss...
and many trips to the treasure chest.
There was a pinata that lasted one whole whack when we got the actual bat out.
The candy frenzy that a pinata brings:
The poor black cat had tails pinned in many different places:
The funniest game was the ping pong ball on a spoon race. You had to put the ball on the end of the spoon and run with it, stopping to pick up the ball when it fell off.
Emmy whipped past everybody and came in first in all three races.
Here's how. I smell a cheater:
A very dirty Harry Potter enjoying a cupcake at the end of the night. The black hair spray paint did not stay on the head.
And here's the second contestant in the "Cutest Thomas the Tank Engine" contest.
I don't think he places first, although it's close. He said "this had better not end up on Facebook." I said "nah, just on the blog." ;)
..................
Happy Halloween!!

We rock, we rock, we rock on!

Here are the videos of Emmy learning her halftime dance and Cherokee, which they didn't get to perform at the game, by the way. Which totally sucks. I mean, seriously. What do people like about Indian football? Cherokee. What do kids in Port Neches know all of the words to? Cherokee. What dance do all of the little girls want to do like the Indianettes? Cherokee. And while I'm at it, I'll just complain some more. It is my blog afterall, I can do that when I want. Maybe somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody will see this and pass the complaining along if I don't decide to call somebody myself. Who in their right mind turns a 5 year old loose at a football stadium full of 11,000 people? The people that organized the Indianette Clinic, that's who. Let's put the kindergarteners WAAAAAAAAAAAY down at the other end of the field, opposite the entrance/exit so that it takes the parents longer to get to them. THEN, let's not wait for the parents to even make it to them before we take off. Go on, go find your Mom. She's the one wearing the purple and white, she should be easy to spot. I ended up holding onto a friends daughter and thank GOD another friend was there to hold onto a frazzled Emmy until I got there. I'm still pissed off about the whole thing two days later. Maybe she won't ask to do it again next year and if she does I won't go down to watch her, I'll wait at the exit to make sure I'm there when she comes out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Done spewing. ;)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She DID look cute and she WAS awfully proud to be out there on the field. I've tried about 30 times to upload the videos to the blog and I'm done trying. I put them up on Dropshots and you can watch them here.

Homecoming parade

Jacob and Jonah rode on the Cub Scout float during the homecoming parade. They had a ball throwing their candy out even though they ran out less than halfway through. "Only throw a few at a time" translated into "throw two handfuls at a time and try to hit as many people as you can." Typical. Emmy and Caleb stood with Basil and caught a bunch. The boys did manage to save some to throw at them. It's Emmy's turn next, she'll ride with her dance studio in the Christmas parade.

With John, their brother from another mother.

I bought the teeth to throw out, and now that I think about it, we didn't come home with any teeth. I guess he took these out of his mouth and flung them to somebody. Ew. I guess this serves as a friendly public service announcement. Before you put something in your mouth that you catch at a parade, wash it. Gross.

Showing the football players some love.

Emmy along with 9876 other girls performed with the Indianettes during halftime of the homecoming game. I don't have video of that but I do have some of her practice, I'll get that up in the next few days.

Also, I've been meaning to say this forever: you're supposed to be able to click on the pictures in the blog post to make them bigger. It doesn't work for me on my own blog for some reason, but it works on others that I visit.

Recent conversation

Jacob (with pom pom on his head): Look Mom! I'm Michael Jackson! Go........is Michael Jackson a Bulldog or an Indian?

Me: Neither.

Jacob: Is he a Pirate then?

Me: No.

Jacob: A Cardinal? A Bear?

Me: No, I don't think he's anything.

Jacob: WHAT?! Well what do you do when you don't have anybody to cheer for?!

******************************
Me: Did either of you have to move your clip yesterday? **They have a clip system in class, sort of like a behavior chart. Mess up and move your clip, the farther down it goes, the worse it is.

Jonah: Jacob did.

Me: What for?

Jacob: Because I was drawing on my page and I wasn't supposed to be.

Me: What were you drawing? Why weren't you doing what you were supposed to be doing?

Jacob: Just some lines and stuff. I don't know! I didn't know what to do!

Me: Then ask next time if you don't know, don't just sit there and doodle.

Jacob (clearly flustered): Okay.

A few minutes later he came to find me, obviously upset by this point.

Jacob: Here's what I was drawing.

Me: What is it?

Jacob: Boobs! I don't like so and so (some girl in his class)

Me: Why not? Did she tell on you for drawing boobs?

Jacob: Yes!!

Me: Why were you drawing boobs? That's not appropriate at all.

Jacob: I don't know!

Me: Don't draw boobs Jacob. Or butts, or tee tees.

Jacob: Okay.

Oh Mrs. Kimball, what you must be thinking.

************************

On the way to the football game..

Jacob: I forgot my shoes!

Me: YOU MUST BE JOKING! DIDN'T I TELL YOU TO PUT YOUR SHOES ON BEFORE WE LEFT?! YOU DON'T HEAR ANYTHING I SAY, ANY OF YOU! (I'm sure they were all pretty much hating Jacob at this point because it set me off and I just started spewing.) THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG AT SCHOOL JACOB AND JONAH! MRS. KIMBALL SAYS THAT YOU DON'T LISTEN! SHE HAS YOU RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER DESK JONAH AND YOU STILL CAN'T HEAR WHAT SHE SAYS!

Jacob: Well Emmy gets check minuses!

Emmy: ONLY ONE!

Me: FOR YOUR INFORMATION, MRS. JOHNSON SAYS THAT EMMY IS GREAT! SHE DOES WHAT SHE'S SUPPOSED TO DO WHEN SHE'S SUPPOSED TO DO IT, UNLIKE YOU!

Jonah: Well she has a bigger brain than us! That's not fair! Why did God give us little brains?!

Basil: Your brain is just fine, you just don't know how to use it sometimes.

Jonah: Sometimes I forget! Is there someplace to plug it in?!!

***So THAT's the problem. All this time their brains haven't been charging. Got it. Last night when we were going out the door to the game, I asked Basil to please grab Caleb a bottle. We're sitting in the stands after the game started and he looks at me and says "did you bring Caleb anything to drink?"

H-E-L-L-O. So it's a male thing and apparently it never gets any better.
