The day after Thanksgiving is a free day at the zoo. We left at 7 and got there right as they were opening the gates. The crowd was light and we had a great time. I think we may make it an annual tradition!

They're posing in a big bird nest:
She wanted to (and did) pose by every statue there.
Jacob at the dolphin rodeo:
Jonah fawning over quite possibly the ugliest pig I've ever seen. And the only one the Houston Zoo offers, oddly enough:
On our way to see the ah-nah-nees!
His face just lit up when he saw the REAL elephants. He kept saying "Hi ah-nah-nee!" over and over again. I really think he would have gone right up to them and planted a kiss if he would have been allowed. He was in awe, we thought it'd be the highlight of his day until...
We got to the aquarium part. He went to every tank but preferred the big ugly fish:
"What are you looking at?!"
See Jacob's eyes hiding behind the garbage can? He was on a mission to touch a bird. He'd throw down a cracker trail and then hide and wait.
Then BAM! He'd jump out at them. You can see how successful he was. Not very.
He was starting to get tired by this point and had a meltdown because we forgot his "bay" (blanket) in the car. Thankfully we parked close so Basil ran and got it for him. Instant happiness. Well and a bottle helped too. He's in a 12 step program, we're working on it. Don't judge. ;)
So the fish were in the lead until we got to the train. The soo soo suhwain. We sat a couple of cars back so that he could see it in front of us when we rounded a corner. He was VERY impressed.
"I see it!"
Then it would toot it's whistle and he'd make this face at Basil every single time.
She, on the other hand, was not a fan of the whistle.
"It's freaking freezing out here and I'm bored with this train ride."
